Heat and Air Conditioning Diagnostics

Self Diagnostics (Heating System)

It is strongly recommended to call a qualified service technician to
repair your homes system but a few of the most common problems are
listed here that may help you diagnose your problem.

#1
Q. System will not come on
A. Most common problem is tripped circuit breaker or blown fuse.
After changing this items ensure that Thermostat is turned on correct
setting. Pilot assembly has to ignite the burner assembly and a
certain temperature has to be reached before the fan blower will
start, (see #2).

#2
Q. System is blowing, but air is not warm.
A. Gas Fired - If manual pilot light the pilot may be out, re-light
and try again. If electronic pilot, The pilot igniter may be bad and
have to be replaced (Call Service technician). This could also
indicate a bad gas valve, if so a Service technician will need to be
called.

Electric Furnace - Ensure that circuit breakers are turned on. If so
make sure that Thermostat is calling for heat at the correcting
settings. If yes, it is probably a faulty heat limit switch or
possible circuit board problem.

Heat Pump - Steps listed above and or possible Freon levels may need
adjusting

#3
Q. System fan continues to run and recycle after the burner assembly
shuts down.
A. This may indicate a bad limit switch or possible adjustment to the
switch. Could possibly indicate a bad Thermostat that needs to
adjusted or replaced.

#4
Q. Some rooms are Hot and others are cold
A. Most commonly this is a result of incorrect sizing or possibly in
relation to where the rooms are located in comparison to the return
air vent. This could also could be related to poor insulation,
windows, direction of room and etc. It could be caused by damaged
duct pipes that are supplying the air flow. A service technician
should be consulted.

#5
Q. I hear a squeaky noise every time the system comes on.
A. Most commonly the fan motor is in need of lubrication, if a self
lubricating motor then mort may have to be replaced.

#6
